The Lion King: Full Cast Announced for Live-Action Remake

Today, Walt Disney Studios announced a full cast list for a live-action remake of the 1994 animated classic, The Lion King. Rumors kept the internet busy since 2016, when Disney announced it would be bringing back the popular film.

Now an official cast list, full of stars, gives us our first glimpse at what could be another blockbuster release for Disney.

Rap singer and leading actor in the upcoming Disney film Solo: A Star Wars Story, Donald Glover, will play the young lion prince, Simba.  Beyoncé will portray Nala, Simba’s childhood friend and love interest. The remake of this movie would not be complete without James Earl Jones reprising his role as King of Pride Rock, Mufasa. Other roles include Chiwetel Ejiofor, who will play Simba’s evil Uncle Scar and John Oliver, who takes on the role of Simba’s friend/personal advisor Zazu. Bringing loads of comedic relief to this Disney-fied retelling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan will keep theater goers laughing as the meerkat-warthog duo, Timon and Pumbaa.
